Where can I get a Bible?

We recommend getting a Bible that has footnotes explaining the meaning of various Bible passages and historical references, such as the Concordia Self-Study Bible: NIV. It is written in an easy-to-understand style and is available through Amazon.com and many bookstores. The price ranges from about $30 to $40. Or, you can buy a Bible for about $10 or less, without the footnotes.

How do I learn more about Christianity?

Many Christian churches offer classes that teach people about Jesus, the Bible and Christianity. Call or visit a Christian church and see if they have a class schedule for teaching people about Christianity. For more information, we strongly recommend visiting the WELS.net site at http://www.wels.net. WELS stands for Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. They have churches throughout the world and they are a Bible-believing, Christ-centered organization. WELS also has a Web site called WhatAboutJesus.com at http://www.whataboutjesus.com.

How do I find a good Christian church?

These are our recommendations finding a good Christian church:

1. Pray to Jesus to guide you in finding the right church.

2. There are false religions that claim to be Christian when in fact they are not Christian. To avoid the false churches, we recommend calling or visiting and asking if the church is a Bible-based, Christ-centered church that believes in and recites the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed. The creeds are not a guarantee that a church is truly Christian, but they can be a helpful starting point.

3. Ask if the church believes that the Bible is the word of God, the whole word of God, and the only word of God. The answers to these questions can be helpful because false churches sometimes have other books that they claim are sacred.

4. Consider going to a few churches and sitting in on at least part of the service.

5. Read part of the Bible every day, even if you just read one sentence per day. The more you know about the Bible, the more you will be able to tell if a church is a false church or a true church.

What must I do to be saved?

What must I do to be saved? Jesus provided a very succinct answer in the Bible's book of John when he said:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16 KJV)

Here are some more Bible verses that help explain salvation:

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:16 KJV)

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NIV)

We cannot earn salvation because we cannot be perfect. We are to try to be perfect, and we are to do the things that true Christians do, like helping other people and being kind to other people. But we cannot earn salvation. Only through Jesus can we have the gift of salvation. Ask Jesus to come into your life and guide you.

The moment you were conceived you were given eternal life. The question is whether you choose to spend that eternity in heaven or hell.
